Ebay is the first name in online auctions and you may well find yourself bidding for things you never even dreamed you might want. That said, there are plenty of bargains to be had, although the trick, as in so much in life, is to know just when to pull out. Auction categories include cars, holidays, flights,  electrical goods, cameras, software, sports equipment, toys, mobile phones and antiques to mention just a few. An escrow service is available, which means that when you use the service, the money you pay is not released to the vendor until you are satisfied with your purchase.
Morgan Auction
If you are looking for a cheap computer, laptop, digital camera, home cinema or computer peripherals Morgan is the place to go. All the lots have no reserve price and bids starting at a pound. You can put in a maximum price and let the system bid for you, which may be a good idea if you are inclined to get carried away, and if you feel a little nervous to start off with, you can test out their system using the Fantasy auction option. As you are buying from Morgan, not private individuals, security is less of a concern here. Lots of good bargains to be had.
eBid
Impressive array of auction categories here, from antiques, books, automotive, electrical, jewellery, sports and more. Not that much bidding activity last time we visited, but that can always change, and for the prospective buyer that can be a good thing, as there's not so much competition for those must have items. Escrow service available.
QXL
QXL auction site is similar in theme to Ebay, though not as large or busy. That said, there are plenty of bargains to be had, and there are some lots without a reserve price. Have fun.
Sothebys
A dream for the moneyed classes. Bid on live auctions or internet only lots for all sorts of precious things, including
watches, prints, clocks, sculptures and much much more. The site is as slick and easy as you would expect.
Christies
Christies auctions unfortunately are not online. You can, however, peruse the many and varied auction categories. If you have found any heirlooms in your attic and would like to arrange an appraisal and valuation, contact details are available.
CQ Out
Wide range of items for auction are available at CQ Out, ranging from collectables, through consumer electronics, jewellery and toys to movie memorobilia and beyond. Escrow service available.

Thistle Hotels Auction
UK hotel group Thistle, list auctions for weekend breaks. Their auctions start from £1 no reserve and includes two nights accommodation and breakfast for two people.
iCollector
Auctions of the refined and downright strange. Old masters, stained glass windows, jewellery, even Birds Custard posters. All things artistic and collectible, in fact. Only drawback is that the prices are in dollars.
